WHO WE ARE

A student and alumni led organization committed to promoting the use of ethical standards in business and management, by means of the MBA OATH.

ETHICS IS AWARENESS

The Club does not teach ethical solutions, instead it promotes ethical awareness. Ethical awareness is defined as the ability to recognize ethical issues in real-life situations and form a framework for addressing the issue.

The Club

WHERE WE CAME FROM

The Club is a reaction to the global financial crisis of 2008-2009. Specifically, the Club is based on the Oct. 2008 HARVARD BUSINESS SCHOOL Review article co-authored by the DEAN OF THE SCHOOL—NITIN NOHRIA entitled: “It´s Time to Make Management a True Profession.”

This foundational article globally launched the idea of a professional OATH as part of the larger movement to professionalize the MBA career.

SHORT HISTORY OF THE MBA OATH IN INCAE

INCAE´s former Rector Arturo Condo helped write a general management oath as a member of the Young Global Leaders of the World Economic Forum. In 2010, INCAE became the first MBA School in Latin America to utilize the oath. On May 24th 2011, a group of students founded the INCAE MBA Oath Club to try and move beyond just signing the oath to living it. Since that time more than 400 students have been members of the Club. The Club has adopted it´s own version of the MBA Oath called “MBA Oath – Club Key Word Version”, which you can read on this website.

The only requirement to become a STUDENT MEMBER is to sign the Basic Statement of Belief, which is the ideological basis of the Club.

BASIC STATEMENT OF BELIEF

1. I believe the purpose of the MBA is to manage enterprises to create and maximize sustainable value for society.

2. I believe in long term value maximization not short-term profit maximization.

3. I believe the MBA graduates must take a leadership role in addressing the culture of corruption in Latin America.

4. I believe that business management should become a true profession.

Dan Ariely – Two Crucial Effects – INCAE MBA Oath Club

Being a Lifetime Member of the INCAE MBA Oath Club is being a member of group that believes that cheating “is what the other people” do.

SERIOUS OATH VIOLATION

If a LIFETIME MEMBER engages in an egregious violation of the MBA OATH, the CLUB can cancel his/ her membership. A group of faculty, students and experienced businessmen are putting together a fair and balanced procedure.
